Similarly to the Nordic Pavillion by Svere Fen, The In-Between emphasizes the delicate but often invisible interactions between the built environment and the natural world. Often the built environment and nature are seen as two separate entities. Where one can exist without the other.
The In-Between attempts to illustrate that we do not need to see them as separate; rather we can facilitate the creation of a world that supports the symbiotic coexistence of both. Our building creates a spatial experience designed to heighten our awareness of our environment. Whether it be through the two main entrances which create the sensation as though you are walking into the earth, the constant framed views towards The Meadoway or the repetitive walls that guide visitors through the building. Given the program of a natatorium, which is heavily programmed, the building sits on top of a constructed landscape allowing the building to seem as though it is floating in addition to providing a large public park below.
